Types Of Safari In Ranthambore National Park
Ranthambore offers two ways to explore the jungle — a nimble open Gypsy or a spacious shared Canter. Here's what each safari type includes.
Gypsy Safari
- Open 4-wheeler gypsy, goes deep inside the park on small jungle routes
- 88 gypsies allowed per shift (morning + evening) — 58 for advance booking, 20 for Tatkal, 5 special category, 5 full/half day

Ranthambore Safari — What to Expect
The Ranthambore tiger reserve area is divided into 10 safari zones, and safari tours are organized across all of them. Jeep & Canter safaris are the most popular way to explore the park's wildlife, though spotting the Royal Bengal Tiger always depends on luck.
Every jeep and canter is accompanied by a trained, expert guide and follows a fixed route within the appointed safari time, with a limited number of vehicles allowed in per zone for a better chance of sightings.

Ranthambore Safari Schedule by Season
Morning safaris start between 6:00 and 7:00 AM and afternoon safaris between 2:00 and 3:30 PM, depending on the month. Zones 1-5 are closed on Wednesdays, Zones 6-10 on Tuesdays, and core zones close July to September, with limited buffer routes subject to weather.

Jeep from ₹2,200 per person and canter from ₹1,500 per person for Indian guests; international guest rates are higher. Fees are set by the Rajasthan Forest Department and can change.

✓ Do's for Safari
- Book safari 30–60 days in advance for peak season
- Carry valid government ID — one per person
- Arrive at the reporting counter at least 45 minutes before start time
- Wear olive, khaki or brown — muted earth tones

- Never step out of the safari vehicle inside the park

Frequently Asked Questions — Ranthambore Safari
April and May offer the highest probability as tigers visit water bodies multiple times daily. October-November is best for comfortable weather with excellent sightings. The park is open October to June.
Zones 3, 4 and 5 are most recommended for first-time visitors. Zone 3 (Padam Talao) and Zone 4 (Malik Talab) have the highest tiger sighting records. Zones 1-5 are core zones with regular tiger activity.
Jeep (Gypsy) seats 6 tourists privately — better for photography and intimate wildlife experience. Canter seats 20 tourists in a shared open bus — more economical. Both cover core zones with tiger activity.
Book 45-60 days ahead for peak season (Oct-Mar). For April-May, 15-30 days is usually sufficient. Weekend and holiday slots fill fastest — book as early as possible for guaranteed availability.
Zones 1-5 (core zones) are closed every Wednesday. Zones 6-10 (buffer zones) are closed every Tuesday. From July 1 to September 30, core zones are closed and limited buffer routes may operate depending on weather.
